You Can’t Learn Radio DJ Skills in College

Is it accurate that being a Radio DJ is no longer a wise choice for a profession? It seems that Radio DJ’s have let go of their “right” in this world with the many advances of the digital period. While on the car, people are increasingly listening to their satellite radios instead of listening to the local FM stations. While a handful satellite stations do employ DJs, they’re few and far between, outnumbered by the hundreds of all music stations supplied to almost all musical taste. Then there is that Internet music market. If songs can be downloaded for a few cents or bootlegged for free in only seconds, then the attraction to radio stations rapidly diminishes. Some people tune in their radios at the house for anything more than the news, and even if newer versions of MP3 players come with FM radio tuners, the Internet stations are easier to access and more popular. The best appeal of your customized Pandora, for instance, is perhaps its ability to let you listen to your favorite songs minus the disruptions. A few Internet stations, such as Slacker, do employ Radio DJ’s but this type of stations is unusual and jobs are only open to the very skilled practicians. Today, we see ourselves in a society where the most well-known DJs work, not at the radio station, but in the trendiest nightclubs.

Over-the-air DJing is becoming a gradually difficult industry to break into. A set of certain characteristics separate those who are able to land themselves on valuable gigs from the “ordinary” ones. Among these characteristics are an undeniable knowledge of their field, a strong personality, a high sense of professionalism as well as passion for their subject. Most of these “characteristics” can be learned – except for love of course, as it lies within. The tricks and recommendations that make popular Radio DJs magnetic can be shared. Also, by having an experience on the business aspect of DJing, one can learn about professionalism. Getting a teacher or being affiliated with those who work in the radio industry can offer precious experience. Knowing just a few tricks of the trade can make the deviation between a DJ who falls between the cracks, and one rises to greatness even with the challenges of today’s highly competitive markets. There are also a variety of great radio and DJ-oriented institutions, many of which provide classes online. A Couple Of courses on the radio industry and the technical aspects of the field will let a DJ student become the kind of personality that radio stations have been searching for. There are even courses ready for specialized DJ jobs, such as working in specific genres of music, live audience DJing, audio engineering, and numerous others. So if you really like to be a Radio DJ, do not get easily disheartened – after all, a little study is just what you need.
